Welcome Home to West Wind Harbour

Enjoy the benefits of cooperative living in our intentional residential community.

What to expect from this site?

We are migrating toward a more user-friendly, searchable community site (intranet) that serves our needs: easy communication with each other and easy document retrieval. (Note: The Wiki will continue to serve as archive)

Currently

This site is privacy-protected and only accessible to registered users (community residents). Once you login, you can book guest rooms and common spaces from anywhere electronically. You can change guest room bookings and cancel them from the confirmation email you receive from the system. The events calendar shows what is happening in the community and the location of events match the common space bookings. So, for example, if we are holding a meeting in the common room, the room is reserved in bookings, and details of the event are found on the events calendar.

Phase 2: More Social Interactions

The current Community Chat option is just the beginning of a member network that allows individuals to edit their profiles, add pictures and post blogs. Team membership can be open or by invitation. Teams can have their own pages to post documents, pictures, and hold chats within the team. You can send messages through the website, without the need for email. You can easily look up an individual profile to see which teams they belong to, and look up a team page to see who its members are.

Phase 3: Searchable Documents

A search function serves to pull up any documents on the site with ease. The document library can also be browsed by topics and categories, date ranges and other criteria. Decisions about which documents are important to always be available and which recent documents need to be included will be made by you, the member community. At the end of certain time periods (annually?), documents will be archived to the Wiki for historical preservation. This will ensure the content continues to be manageable in its size.

How long the migration takes depends on time and effort spent. More members on the intranet team would expedite enhancements and facilitate proper ongoing maintenance. If you are thinking about it, please get in touch. No website building experience is necessary, but you should like the idea of learning to work with the content. Any previous exposure to WordPress will be invaluable, but all the necessary skills can be learned.
